Farm Energy Day As with any agricultural region, PEI’s agriculture industry is heavily dependent on petroleum products. The rise in crude oil prices in recent years has significantly impacted the bottom line on most of our farms. As a result, PEI farmers are keenly interested in ways to become more energy efficient and are looking at ways to produce energy that is not dependent on oil. There has been a small but growing movement on PEI to adapt farm operations to include more renewable energy.
With this in mind the PEI Federation of Agriculture, with the PEI Department of Agriculture and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, organized the first farm energy conference on PEI. The goal of the conference was to provide farmers with answers to some of the questions they have about implementing renewable energy systems on their farm. We have worked hard to put together a great line up of speakers that will cover almost all renewable energy systems. See below to view the presentations from the Atlantic Conference:
The Renewable Energy Initiative is being offered through the Agricultural Flexibility Fund, a cost-sharing agreement between the Government of Canada and the Province of Prince Edward Island. The Renewable Energy Initiative is an approximate $7 million dollar initiative that will allow Island farmers to pursue opportunities in renewable energy by providing financial assistance towards a farm energy audit and implementation of an on-farm renewable energy system(s). |
